Catherine Ford is a British actress, born in Bloomsbury. After her father's divorce from her family, she was raised up by her mother godparents and grandmother. As a young child, Ford battled anxious disorders, obsessive/compulsive and was afflicted by the word association. Ford became interested in the acting profession during her teen years, and became a member of the National Youth Theatre. She was admitted to Sylvia Young Theatre School but after a week, she decided that she wasn't a good fit. Ford rather than applying to Central School of Speech and Drama and winning a placement on her third attempt made an application and secured a place at Central School of Speech and Drama. Shaun Dingwall would play Pete Tyler as a regular character for Doctor Who. Ford was able to graduate in 1993, but she already made a TV appearance in a 1992 episode of Surgical Spirit. She adopted the name Catherine Tate. Through the Nineties, Tate could be seen on television in programmes including The Bill, Men Behaving Badly and London's Burning. Alongside her usual theatre work, Tate joined in the Royal Shakespeare Company in 2000-2001. Tate started to get noticed because of her stand-up comedic performances in the year 1996.
